REalliance Update

REalliance held a review session recently, enabling staff from the four networks to meet and share their knowledge.  In addition, staff were encouraged to share their aspirations for the sector and their thoughts on how best to help in shaping the new government’s policies.

The meeting was held at the Lumen Rooms – an oasis of calm amidst the bustle of Kings Cross, London.

Some suggestions for improvements have already been implemented, such as the web-based shared hub for documents and discussion (enabling better communication) and the reciprocal membership of the networks themselves (delivering better services to the network members).

The key messages from the day are:

  • We need to give a clearer message describing the social benefits of recycling and reuse, especially in alleviating poverty
  • Small is beautiful!  The strength of the networks is in the wide coverage of small organisations and committed individuals making a real difference to their local communities.
  • While gaining a greater competitive edge we must remain true to our values.

The REalliance directors will discuss the report at their next meeting and recommend further actions to develop the sector.
